Answering your first questions
After the announcement of Cubic Odyssey you’ve left many comments on the game’s social media accounts, under the first trailer on YouTube, and in Steam Community Discussions. We enjoy seeing your enthusiasm and are happy to answer some of your questions.
– Can you play alone?
Yes, Cubic Odyssey can be enjoyed solo, without other people or an Internet connection.
— Will there be multiplayer and online co-op?
Yes, aside from single player mode, we plan to add online co-op for those who enjoy teaming up with others.
— Will players from different platforms be able to join up?
Cross-platform play is very difficult to set up, and as this is an indie game from a small indie studio, the developers are mainly focused on making Cubic Odyssey available for you to play in 2025.
— Is a demo version planned?
Yes, and you will hear about it soon.
— Tell us about monetization in the game.
It is a paid game. Meaning you buy it once and play, there’s no need to pay additionally for anything. We may decide to add paid DLC with new content in the future. We understand that our publisher is known first and foremost for its free-to-play online games, but Cubic Odyssey is a completely different project developed by an indie studio and is a buy-to-play game.
— Does the game require an Internet connection?
Only if you want to play with friends. Single player mode does not require an Internet connection.
— Is a mobile version planned?
We do not have plans for a mobile version yet, but the game will be Steam Deck compatible.
— Is VR support planned?
Not on release, but possibly in the future.
— Will the game have dedicated servers?
Most likely not. They are difficult to implement and costly to maintain for a small indie studio. Right now we are focused on making a great game.
— Will the game have mod support?
We are currently discussing it among developers. We’d really like to implement it as mods are a perfect fit for the game that rewards creativity.
— Will the players be able to leave their ship in outer space?
Yes, depending on your space suit you’ll be able to spend a certain amount of time in outer space to mine rare minerals from asteroids, visit space stations, collect loot, find and repair abandoned ships.
— How detailed will ship customization be?
You will be able to upgrade your ship with better modules. We’re still looking into other customization options.
— Are game worlds procedurally generated?
Most planets are procedurally generated with fauna, flora, terrain types and landscapes, and randomized placement of pirate bases, ruins, cities, enemies, and the Red Darkness infestation.
— Tell us more about the Red Darkness.
It is a mysterious entity that infects and warps everything it touches. Its influence will turn people, animals, plants, and even soil and stones hostile — everything consumed by the Red Darkness will try to kill you.
— You can travel between planets seamlessly and without loading screens, correct?
Correct, the game is completely seamless, and the only loading screen you will see is at the start of the game or when loading your save.
