How to build your first base

It might be tempting to go explore the whole galaxy full of surprises and hundreds of planets right away. Nevertheless, first you need to build yourself a base — a sweet home where you can return at any time, craft some useful tools, and simply relax. Here are some things you need to know about how to build your first base.

You should start with a crafting bench — an indispensable worktable that will help you create various tools for your adventure, such as mining lasers, batteries, scanners, bandages, and more. You can upgrade it anytime if you have enough resources to gain access to even more useful things.

Any precious metals you find need to be processed first. Build a refinery to make ingots out of raw ore. Gather some wood and make coal out of it to use as fuel in the future. A decent amount of ingots will allow you to create even more sophisticated tools that, for instance, will help you repair your first spaceship.

Don’t forget about chests — your inventory is not unlimited, and it is impossible to carry everything around. Good storage is a must to keep your resources safe. But don’t rush to put it all in one box — it might be a good idea to sort things out.

As soon as you finish the first draft of your house, you can start improving it. The builder bench will help you craft more suitable blocks that can be used as walls, floors, or ceilings. You can even create glass windows or fancy staircases to make your building even more fitting to your style.

When your house is ready, it might be the right time to think about its defenses. The armory bench will provide you with basic weapons that you can use against pirates and hostile animals. You can also build a laser turret to keep your enemies away, and an anti-meteor turret to protect your home from incoming meteorites, ensuring your precious shelter won’t get crushed.

If you ever get frustrated by the number of possibilities, ask QB-1 for a friendly word of advice. He will gladly tell you what you should build next. And when you’re all set, you can finally embark on your spaceship and explore the galaxy.

This is just the beginning, and we would love for you to discover even more possibilities for yourself when the game launches on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 on May 14th. For now, you can check out a free demo available on Steam that allows you to try out the first couple of hours.

We’ll see you around in Cubic Odyssey.
